I originally rated this book primarily on price and a limited view of the content in Amazon’s preview mode. I subsequently bought the book (for much less than offered here), and thought it only fair to review it on all its merits. It is a primer in orientation as described. I don’t think that is a drawback necessarily; I personally find it useful to review the basics of a subject that I’m already somewhat familiar with. It would be most useful, however, for a high school student considering a career in graphic design. It is appealing in layout, with some nice watercolor illustrations. The emphasis is on non-computer skills, such as color theory, conceptualizing, and hand illustration. Though these are foundational skills for a would-be designer, some of these skills could be described in the context of computer graphics. It steers away from describing the process of digital work, and the computer section is brief and somewhat outdated. If I could change my rating, I’d give it at least a 3, however I feel the book is one you’d rather borrow from the library than to keep as a reference.

This book informs you about what you will do as a graphic designer. Great for those thinking about Graphic Design as a career.

As the title indicates is just at Foundation level. It is very very basic. It is more of an introduction. Most topics are dealt with a couple of pages.
